BETA NOPS Scheme
The British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) has introduced two assurance schemes designed to reduce the risk of naturally occurring prohibited substances (NOPS) in equine feeds.

BETA Feed Assurance Mark for equines prone to Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS)
A new feed approval mark has been developed by the British Equestrian Trade Association – in consultation with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate – to help owners identify feeds suitable for horses and ponies prone to equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS).

BETA Mycotoxin Working Group
Whilst knowledge of the adverse effects of moulds on horses has long been documented, the issue of mycotoxins in equine diets has come to the fore more recently.
The working group provides information and guidance on mycotoxins to BETA feed members. This is achieved by the production of scientific and lay publications on the risk of mycotoxins in equines and equine feeding stuffs and disseminating the latest scientific and expert opinion regarding acceptable levels of mycotoxins in equine diets.
