Helmet Bounty Scheme

BETA is working in conjuntion with British Eventing, the British HorseRacing Authority, British Riding Clubs and the Pony Club to offer a helmet bounty scheme for riders and jockeys who suffer from concussion after a fall whilst competiting.

The medical officer at the event, following diagnosing the rider with concussion will offer the rider the option for their helmet to be part of the scheme. The helmet is then returned to the BETA office with the appropriate documentation and a voucher is issued to the rider/jockey so they can purchase a new skull helmet. The vouchers must be redeemed with a BETA retail member.

The helmets are being analysed as part of a European funded PHD project at University College Dublin looking into the type of fall and how that relates to the damage the helmet sustained and how the rider was affected.
